Social Life

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Making new friends and having the opportunity to gather with old friends, learning new skills or practising old ones and enjoying each other’s company are important aspects of our church life at St. Nicholas’.  If you are new to church please make yourself known by joining us at the end of the service over a cup of coffee (or tea if you prefer).

All our social events, which take place throughout the year, are published in the church newsletter, on the website and via our Facebook Homepage.

We also have a number of groups which meet regularly providing the opportunity to share interests and get to know each other better.

Community Hub

The St. Nicholas Community Hub takes place every Tuesday morning from 9.30am. It is a foodbank distribution point, and home to Talbot House Cafe.  There is also a craft group, clothes rail and plenty more.

Talbot House Cafe

A place to gather with old friends and new.  In the church hall every Tuesday and Friday from 10am-12pm.  We have barista style coffee and cake served by the pupils from St. Philips School.

Book Club

Our book club embraces diversity in reading, exploring a wide range of fiction genres based on member suggestions or collective choices. The primary focus is on fostering friendships and a shared love for reading. We meet once a month either in person or online at around 8pm on a weeknight. For more information or to sign up, send us an email to: stnicholasbookclub@gmail.com

Monthly Meals

We enjoy gathering in fellowship and have various events across the year including Bring and Share lunches, outings and groups.  Keep an eye on our diary for these or sign up to our newsletter.

Garden of Remembrance

We have a dedicated team who look after the Garden of Remembrance and church grounds.  Look out for dates of our next working party or get in touch with the Parish Office if you’d like to help on a regular basis.

Craft and Chatter

We meet in the Church Hall as part of the Community Hub every Tuesday from 10.30am. All kinds of craft resources (wool, needles, crochet hooks, material, and even a sewing machine!) are available for you to use. Pop along and see what we get up to.

Parent and Toddler

St Nicholas' Parent and Toddler Group meets on Thursday mornings from 9.30 to 11.30 during term time in the Church Hall. Mums, Dads, grandparents, carers are all welcome. There is an array of toys for the children to play with, a drawing table, Duplo and a book corner. The children play for an hour and a half, then we tidy up and finish the morning off with nursery rhymes. Coffee, tea, juice and biscuits are served throughout the morning. There is a £2 suggested donation per child. We welcome everybody to come and meet up with friends and to make new ones.

We run a Bereavement Café in partnership with Princess Alice Hospice, led by All our trained volunteers, on the 3rd Tuesday of the Month in the church hall 10:30am-12pm.
