Hymns for 9.30 Baptism Services

There no restrictions regarding options for hymns, though some are more appropriate than others. The following hymns are simply to give families a few ideas and/or starting points; there is no obligation to choose from this selection if another hymn is particularly dear to your family, or appropriate to the time of year. In general terms, the ‘best’ hymns tend to be the better known ones (everyone knows the words and tune), and not terribly long. The numbers refer to the church hymn books (*), or you can get some sterling advice from the organist.

6          All creatures of our God and King

23        All that I am, all that I do

25        All things bright and beautiful

29        Amazing grace! How sweet the sound

54        At the name of Jesus (ev’ry knee shall bow)

67        Be still, for the presence of the Lord (the Holy One, is here.)

72        Bind us together, Lord, (bind us together with cords that cannot be broken.)

88        Brother, sister, let me serve you, (let me be as Christ to you;)

144      Dear Lord and Father of mankind

161      Father, hear the prayer we offer: (not for ease that prayer shall be,)

184      For the beauty of the earth, (for the beauty of the skies,)

201      Give me joy in my heart, keep me praising

205      Glorious things of thee are spoken

243      Go, tell it on the mountain, (over the hills and ev’rywhere)

252      Guide me, O thou great Redeemer

286      Holy! holy! holy! (Lord God almighty!)

305      I danced in the morning (when the world was begun)

314      Immortal, invisible, (God only wise)

379      Lead us, heav’nly Father, lead us (o’er the world’s tempestuous sea;)

413      Lord of all hopefulness, (Lord of all joy,)

419      Lord, the light of your love is shining, (in the midst of the darkness, shining;)

428      Love divine, all loves excelling, (joy of heav’n, to earth come down)

449      Mine eyes have seen the glory (of the coming of the Lord.)

450      Morning has broken like the first morning

503      O Jesus, I have promised (to serve thee to the end;)

525      One more step along the world I go

544      Our Father, who art in heaven, (The Lord’s Prayer)

551      O worship the King (all glorious above;)

565      Praise, my soul, the King of heaven!

617      Stand up, stand up for Jesus,

625      Take my life, and let it be (consecrated, Lord, to thee;)

636      The Church’s one foundation (is Jesus Christ, her Lord;)

654      The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want (Psalm 23)

666      The Spirit lives to set us free, (walk, walk in the light.)

819      He’s got the whole world in his hand

838      It’s me, it’s me, it’s me, O Lord, (standing in the need of prayer)

845      Jesus bids us shine (with a pure, clear light)

876      Oh when the saints go marching in

901      This little light of mine (I’m gonna let it shine)
