Children
“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” Matthew 19:14
Children are very welcome at any of our services as we understand that they are the future of our church. We offer toy bags and a small play area which can be used throughout any service. Many families enjoy attending our more informal, contemporary service held at 10am each Sunday. The first Sunday of the month is an all age service. We run a children’s group called Nick’s Kids on the remaining Sundays of the month during term time.
During the year there are also additional special services which many children and their parents look forward to, especially Mothering Sunday, special Easter Services, Harvest, and two Crib Services (3pm & 5pm) on Christmas Eve.
Nick’s Kids
Nick’s Kids is our Sunday morning children’s group which runs in the church hall during the 10am service. We meet in the church before heading to the Church Hall to explore what faith means for children, we share and talk about Bible Stories, explore the Bible themes through games and craft and build a fun and trusting environment for children to feel comfortable getting to know God at their level and pace. It is ideal for 5 to 11-year olds but everybody is welcome. Parents are welcome to stay with their child, if they wish. Nick’s Kids runs every Sunday in term time except the first Sunday of the month when we have an All Age Service in church suitable for everyone.
Parent and Toddler Group
The St. Nicholas’ Parent and Toddler Group meets on Thursday morning from 9.30am to 11.30am during term time in the church hall.
This is a very popular group for preschoolers and their parents and carers. It allows children to play constructively in a relaxed atmosphere whilst parent and carers can chat with friends old and new and share the experience of bringing up a young family. Drinks and biscuits are available. Suggested donation of £2 per session. Contact Elaine Heptonstall.
Family events
We run special family events throughout the year including Easter Hunts, Craft Events, Children’s Prayer Spaces, Christmas Crafternoons and much more. These events help people who may not come to church every Sunday keep in touch with their faith and have some fun exploring the Christian themes as a family. Keep an eye on our Coming Up page for any planned events or sign up to our Parish newsletter.
Supporting Children in our Community
St Nicholas’ Church also partners with the Christian charity Transforming Lives for God (TLG). This partnership has meant that we have linked with a local school to support individual children who are in need of some additional emotional support. To find out more about TLG visit https://www.tlg.org.uk/your-church/early-intervention. If you are interested in becoming involved please contact the Church Office.
