Children and Church Children are a vital and integral part of any church's life and at St. Nicholas' we wish to do all we can to encourage them and their parents or carers. At a time when there is less and less formal teaching of Christianity in schools, St. Nicholas' can offer an important part of their education, and give them a real sense of belonging to the Christian community.
Baptisms Yvonne Scicluna c/o Parish Office 0208 398 9641 We are delighted to baptise anyone who lives in the Parish. For many this is an opportunity to rejoin the Christian family and connect with the local community who will support your child and your family throughout their lives. Parents will be asked to attend a baptism meeting following a Sunday morning service to explore the meaning of baptism and the practical elements of the baptism service.
Thursdays Parent and Toddler Group 9.30-11.30am (term time only), Church Hall, Elaine Heptonstall 0208 398 7211 This very popular group for pre-schoolers and their parents/carers allows children to play constructively in a relaxed atmosphere. You can chat with friends old and new, and share the experience of bringing up a young family. Drinks and biscuits are available at a small cost.
Sunday Family Service Come to our Family Service at 10.00 a.m. (usually on the first Sunday of each month - for dates please check the page “This Week’s and Regular Services”). This is a shorter non-communion service.
Special Services During the year there are also additional 'Special Services' which many children and their parents look forward to, especially Mothering Sunday, Harvest Festival, the Toy Service (usually early December), and the Christingle Service (usually mid-December).
After the service drinks and biscuits are served in the Church Hall. You and your children can meet other people from the church congregation, and there are even toys for the children to play with.
Sundays Crèche and Sunday School 9.55 a.m. - 10.45 a.m. in the Church Hall (term time only, except the first Sunday of the month, timetables available from group leaders),
Crèche (for under 5's) Julie Hammett 020 8398 9909 Julie_Hammett@hotmail.com Crèche is run in the Church Hall by CRB-checked volunteers, usually mothers themselves, and has play equipment, tabletop toys, colouring and books. There is no need to confirm you wish to use this facility and your child is welcome to join the group part way through the service if they become restless in church.
Sunday School (5 to 11's) Kate Gilbert 020 8398 4189 kgiIbert@btconnect.com This group is run by CRB-checked volunteers, all parents themselves, to teach children about the Bible and also to have lots of fun.
Occasionally local charities come to talk to the group and the children themselves support charities through activities such as cake sales. Special craft half-days take place on Good Friday and at Christmas (small charge towards the cost of materials is made).
Children from the crèche and Sunday School join the congregation for communion and the last 15 minutes of the service. They can show the congregation anything they have made or tell them about what they've been learning.
Sunday Morning Groups All Sunday morning children's activities meet weekly, during term time (not half term or the school holidays) except for the first Sunday of each month when the monthly Family Service is held.
Toilets In Church, there is a toilet next to where the choir stand, behind the organ pipes. If you are unsure please ask a sidesperson (the person who hands out the books) for assistance. There are several toilets in the Church Hall. |
