Joining In, Helping Out

The key aspect of joining in the parish activities is to come to church to worship. There is NO obligation on parishioners to help out – but many do so and find it rewarding and enjoyable. This page sets out some of the areas where you can join in or help. Contact points are given under Contacts. Activity times given are the general rule, but if in doubt, just call the relevant contact to check!

Bellringers practice on a Monday night (8.00 p.m. at Church) and ring at Morning Service and Evensong. Both beginners and more experienced people are welcome: instruction on how to ring/improve is given.

Bible study: see House Groups below

Choir The Choir sings at all major services, including a once monthly Choral Evensong and, in addition, can be called upon for weddings and funerals. It invites additional singers to join it for the Service of Nine Lessons & Carols at Christmas and welcomes new members in all departments at any time. Practices are held weekly in Church on Thursdays at 7.30 pm and last for about an hour. These are informal and friendly gatherings and more information can be had from either Mike Badcock on 8398 3966 or the Organist, Muir Coburn on 8398 0629

Church cleaning – as well as an Annual spring clean, there are ad hoc gatherings. Volunteers simply turn up and muck in. Details are published in Parish notices – or contact the Church cleaning coordinator.

Church working parties – normally meet on the second Saturday of the month at 9.30 a.m. at Church to carry out maintenance on the Church and Church Hall Buildings and the Churchyard. You can simply turn up – or get in touch a few days before hand so that tasks can be better planned.

Coffee/squash is served in the Church Hall after Morning Service and there is a need for volunteers to join a rota to help on this.

Crèche, Sunday School and God’s Gang are run by a team of volunteers. Often, but not necessarily Mums. Volunteers may need to CRB check (the Parish has a Child Protection Policy).

Flowers – for the Church on Sunday are done by volunteers.  The volunteers arrange the flowers, not pay for them! You can volunteer to help regularly, or an ad-hoc basis such as at Harvest festival.

Friday lunch – is at 12.0 – 2.00 p/m. There is a rota for helpers.

Gardening – there is a team dedicated to looking after the Garden of Remembrance/Church Close which normally meets there on the Second Saturday of the month at 9.30 a.m. and on other ad-hoc occasions.  You can simply turn up – or get in touch a few days before hand so that tasks can be better planned.

House Groups

These are friendly groups where we to study, discuss and enjoy fellowship. There are several House Groups which meet regularly in members' homes, some in the day and some in the evening. Anyone who would like to make a new start in one of these house groups should please contact:

Rev. Martin Hussey on 01932 221914

Sidesmen/women – act on a rota. e.g. 10.00am service every second Sunday.  This is a great opportunity for busy commuters to contribute.

Stewardship St Nicholas has a stewardship programme. Please contact our treasurer for information such as Giving Envelopes.
